Visiting International Students

Visiting international students are those who come to Hacettepe University for a semester of study through bilateral agreements with universities abroad, or students from Hacettepe University who go to these partner universities. The processes for accepting visiting students, from their initial acceptance to their return to their home institutions, are coordinated by the Office of External Relations in collaboration with internal stakeholders. Hacettepe University considers student exchanges under bilateral protocols as an essential step in developing a common understanding between institutions and values their contribution to the university’s internationalization efforts.

Application and Acceptance Process

Prospective visiting international students apply through the external/international relations office at their home university. The relevant unit forwards the students' applications to the Office of External Relations at Hacettepe University within the application periods determined and announced by the Office of External Relations each semester. The Office of External Relations then submits valid applications to the relevant academic unit. If the academic unit's board of directors makes a positive decision, the Office of External Relations sends an acceptance letter.

Accommodation for visiting students in student dormitories or residence halls can be reserved by the Office of External Relations. The integration of visiting international students into the university system and the completion of necessary legal procedures are coordinated in collaboration with the Student Affairs Office.

Integration Process for International Students

In addition to orientation activities managed by the relevant academic units, Hacettepe University organizes a course called UNI 101 to ensure that visiting international students adapt quickly to the academic and cultural environment. Turkish language courses are also provided by TÖMER for those in need.

UNI 101

UNİ 101 is a program designed to help new students quickly familiarize themselves with Hacettepe University and increase awareness of the opportunities provided by the university and university life. In this course, students learn how to benefit from the university’s social and cultural opportunities. Topics such as time management, interpersonal communication, and efficient learning are covered, and students meet faculty and peers. The program also includes fun activities like concerts, sports events, and film screenings.

This course is mandatory for all students and takes place every September. For international students, a special session is held in October, tailored to address their specific questions and needs. International students present on campus in September can participate in the general UNI 101 course, but they must also attend the October session. Announcements are made via Hacettepe email addresses.

Turkish Language Support

Hacettepe University’s Turkish and Foreign Language Teaching Application and Research Center (H.Ü. TÖMER) is a continuation of the Turkish Language Courses Administration, established in 1982 to provide Turkish language instruction to foreign students wishing to study at the university. The center was restructured in 2009 as the Hacettepe Language Teaching Application and Research Center (HÜDİL) and adopted the TÖMER name in early 2012.

TÖMER provides education to:

  1. International students studying at Hacettepe University,
  2. International students in Turkey under various projects such as ERASMUS,
  3. Anyone interested in learning Turkish.

International Friendship Day

Hacettepe University aims to strengthen the sense of belonging of its international students and support their integration process through International Friendship Day, held every spring semester. Organized by the Office of External Relations, this event is an important opportunity to strengthen the university's friendships with other countries and spread this vision throughout the university.

During International Friendship Day, embassies representing the countries of international students organize various cultural activities. Stands are set up throughout the day to showcase the rich cultures of different countries, including traditional music and dance performances, handicraft exhibitions, and food and drink tastings.

This meaningful day not only promotes cultural exchange but also reflects the university’s global vision. It provides a platform for students and staff to experience and appreciate different cultures, strengthen friendship bonds, and raise awareness of global citizenship.

International Friendship Day, eagerly anticipated each year, has become a tradition that reflects the university’s vibrant and dynamic nature, bringing together students and faculty.
